Director of the Syrian Chambers of Commerce Union: Private Sector Is a Key Partner in Shaping Economic Policies and Supporting Recovery
The Director General of the Syrian Chambers of Commerce Union, Amer Al-Homsi, affirmed that the private sector is a key partner in shaping economic policies and supporting Syria’s economic recovery efforts. His remarks came during the First National Private Sector Dialogue Conference held in Damascus.
Al-Homsi explained that the Syrian Chambers of Commerce Union serves as the largest umbrella organization representing the private sector in the country, bringing together chambers of commerce, traders, and business leaders from across Syria. This position enables the union to play a central role in conveying the perspectives and demands of economic stakeholders and contributing to the development of economic and development policy proposals.
He noted that the conference provided an important platform for dialogue between the public and private sectors, facilitating discussions on key economic issues related to comprehensive economic recovery plans while encouraging the exchange of ideas among stakeholders involved in economic affairs.
Al-Homsi stated that the conference sessions addressed several important economic topics and produced recommendations aimed at improving the business environment and enhancing the regulatory framework governing relations between the public and private sectors, thereby strengthening cooperation and supporting economic activity.
He stressed the importance of involving private sector representatives and chambers of commerce in the formulation of government economic policies, given their practical expertise and market data, which can contribute to more effective decisions aligned with market needs and development objectives.
He added that private sector participation in economic decision-making has witnessed significant progress in recent years, alongside improvements in government work mechanisms and stronger coordination among economic institutions, positively impacting economic dialogue and the development of practical solutions.
Al-Homsi concluded by emphasizing that Syria has made important progress on its path toward economic recovery, but achieving broader and more sustainable results requires continued cooperation between government institutions and economic stakeholders, as well as greater efforts to stimulate investment, production, and commercial activity in the coming period
