Elias Makkia, the vice president of the craft association and director of the stamp office, revealed a satisfactory and acceptable solution to the dispute between the Ministry of Finance and the goldsmiths association on stamping, by reducing the tax from 150 million to 100 million per month on the associations of Damascus, Aleppo and Hama until the end of this year.
He added: It was agreed after the meeting with the Economic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Finance and Supply, on 18 last month, in order to maintain the continuity of the profession and ensure the continuation of craftsmen in the work.
Makiya said that the association has been handed over stamp pens to start work in the stamping of gold, pointing out that the movement of work in gold and drafting has returned again, after not stamping any piece for almost two months now we are stamping (3 to 4) kilograms per day.
Makiya ruled out the decline of the price of gold after this solution, the price of gold is a global issue subject to the world ounce price and exchange rate, but he expected a drop in the wage drafting after reducing the tax from 1500 to 500 pounds on the piece, but this is linked to the type of each commodity, he says.
Makiya expressed his gratitude for the cooperation of the Economic Committee and the Minister of Finance and Supply to find a solution to this serious problem, especially that the gold profession is heritage and influential in the national economy, pointing to the return of many craftsmen to work.
